OUR CURRENT VACANCIES
The English Woodlands Timber you see in front of you is the result of hard work over many years and by many people. We’re still growing and changing. The world of wood is our proverbial oyster. As more and more customers come to us for wood, we want to provide more ways to make them happy.
That means we’re sometimes looking for new people to join the company. And by that, we don’t just mean another pair of hands to the pump, we mean people who’re serious about being part of a timber team.
When it comes to working with us there’s no doubt that skill, knowledge and experience in the appropriate areas are important to us, but depth of character, a cheerful disposition and an openness to learn new things also feature high on our ‘wishlist’ for a new colleague.

A NEW POSITION: Timber Selector
Our job is to make our customers lives easier. Our work is to love what we do and to grow our expertise so we can serve them, safely, respectfully, skillfully and efficiently.
The job of the Timber Selector is to know wood. To read and understand wood and to be able to pick from our stocks the absolute best timber for the every job. Every customer requirement, whether boards-to-make or cutting lists for machining, comes through to the timber selection team.
They translate, interpret, transpose and judiciously choose from square edge, waney edge, character, super prime, pippy, burr, Oak, Elm, Sycamore, Plane, English or Italian, Croatian or North American. They think in numbers, dimensions, densities, percentages, wastages, days, hours and minutes.
In fact not one piece of wood passes through our sheds without passing through their qualified hands.
If this excites you, intrigues you or makes you want to hand in your notice right now and turn up on our doorstep ready to go…

A NEW POSITION – This post has now been filled
Timber Selector & Customer Assistant
This role is as part of a small and growing team in our timber yard at Cocking Sawmills.
Our timber yard team takes care of our customers and our wood. Listening to customers and understanding their needs is a big part of the daily work. Here people skills and wood knowledge go hand in hand.
The team is small and the role is key, so here are some KEY questions.
Do you like people?
Do you know about timber (especially hardwoods)?
Do you like to be organised?
Have you worked in the Timber Industry or in woodworking workshops before?
Are you a natural with computers and digital gadgets (yup, we even use them in a woodyard!)?
If you answered YES to these questions then we might have the job for you!
We’re looking for someone who already knows their timber, who knows woodworking machines and lift equipment. It doesn’t have to be ours exactly but we need someone who’s already thinking on a wood wavelength. We need someone comfortable with computers and with learning new things, be that a new piece of software or a new profile moulder.
As well as good knowledge and experience we can’t stress enough that this role is as much about people as it is about wood so we’re looking for a respectful, friendly, ‘glass half full’ kind of person who’s ready to work with fellow woodyard folk and interested in getting to know customers.
Read the detailed job description and then send us your CV with a covering letter telling us about you and why you’re right for this role.
– Application Deadline 5pm Fri 2nd Mar 2018
A NEW POSITION – This post has now been filled
Timber Sales Person
This role is as part of a small and bijoux sales team that takes care of our customers’ every want (and a lot more besides!).
Because the team is small this role is key.
Are you articulate and good at communicating over the phone, by email and face to face?
Does using software and online platforms come naturally to you?
Would working with your team on goals and objectives to build the company and make customers happy be enough to get you out of bed in the morning?
If you answered ‘Yes’ then we want to hear from you… even if your love of wood exceeds your knowledge of it!
Read the detailed job description and then send us your CV with a covering letter telling us about you and why you’re right for this role.
– Application Deadline 5pm 21st Nov 2016
If you like the sound of working with us then why wait for us to post a vacancy?
Carpe diem… get in touch and tell us what you could bring to English Woodlands Timber.
We look forward to hearing from you,
Tom, Ian and the team at English Woodlands Timber Ltd
